The Sunday Salon

This is my first Sunday Salon, so I am very excited. I have been reading voraciously this week. I have completely devoured Inkheart and enjoyed every minute of it. I have left a review on my blog. I have enjoyed spending some afternoons and most evenings, under the covers, on the sofa with a hot water bottle and a delicious cup of hot vanilla milk, quietly reading through my Christmas stash.

I would definitely recommend Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, a rather large book but easy reading.

I am now reading through 3 different books this week.

The first is The Point of Rescue by Sophie Hannah. This is the second one I have read by her and I find her writing a little disturbing. The books were lent to me by a friend. Sophie Hannah's books are basically psychological thrillers and I find myself wincing in parts to her descriptions of how people think. I will keep ploughing through it.

The second book I am reading is Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome. This is one of those books that I have been meaning to read since I was a child. I have picked it up so often and read the first page and got no further. So with a new year starting, I am determined to read it. The first few chapters have a lot of references to sailing, which for me, being a real land girl, I have found a little confusing. I have had to keep checking the dictionary to explain sailing terms which would normailly fly right over my head. It is a little bit Enid Blyton, with a constant description of food, but other than that I am enjoying it.

The third book I am reading is for Vasillis's challenge 'In Her Shoes'. For this challenge I have commited to reading for autobiographies, biographies or memoirs through the year. The book I chose to read is Stori Telling by Tori Spelling. Now, I will admit to having a bit of a weakness for all things Beverly Hills 90210, an addiction my husband hopes I will eventually grow out of! So this one was a must for me. I have to admit, I have found it quite fascinating to read, learning what it was like to live with the great Aaron Spelling. Were you aware that Tori's godfather was Dean Martin. Now you are interested, I can tell.

So there you have it, these are the three books I will be reading this week, inbetween school runs, making sandwiches, cleaning, ironing and all those other joys of motherhood.

Have a great reading week.

  2. This post makes me want to crawl under the covers and read. It was in the 80's here yesterday but it's dropped 50 degrees this morning. Thanks for stopping by my blog and welcome to the Sunday Salon.

  3. I shall now tell you the only thing I know about the Spellings. In their house, there is/was a room dedicated entirely to gift wrapping. I find that pretty impressive! Great blog Viv xxx
