Sunday Salon

This week has not been as good a reading week as previous ones this year. My grandmother passed away last week, so my reading progress was very slow, as my thoughts were elsewhere.

This weekend I have been participating in the Inner Child weekend set up by dovegreyreader. This is where we dedicate one weekend a month to reading books that we enjoyed as a child. So today I am enjoying rereading The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. This takes me back to my little bedroom, all painted white with delicate pink flowers on the bed spread. My record player at my side, probably playing Madonna or Wham. Posters covering my walls of pictures of George Michael, Rob Lowe and Madonna. Oh those were the days - no mortgage, no bills, no ironing and cleaning. Kids don't realise how lucky they are!

During the week, I managed to finish reading Forged in the Fire, which was fabulous and set during the plague and the Great Fire of London. I also read The Haunting of Cassie Palmer, which was another book I read as a child. I also finished Coastliners by Joanne Harris, which is the first of her books that I have read. I haven't written a review yet, so that will be coming up this week.

I hope to read more this week, as the weather turns colder and with expectations of more snow expected, I will need to have a few duvet and hot waterbottle hours this week. Hope it is warmer where you are this weekend.

  2. Sorry about your grandma. My grandama from my mom's side is 94. And is in good health. As I live far from her, I miss her.

  3. So sorry about your grandmother.

I loved C.S. Lewis' novels. I remember as I child having to haul one of step stools in the adult section all the way down to the children's section so I could reach them.

  4. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. (Hugs)

I love reading familiar children's novels during hard times. One year when I was struggling with health issues, I read my way through the Anne of Green Gables series. It's like comfort food.

  5. I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I think that dovegray's challenge came at a perfect time. I crave comfort books (which mostly ends up being His Dark Materials and Alice in Wonderland) whenever bad things happen.

Wishing you all the best at this incredibly hard time

  6. It is really hard to concentrate on anything when you're mourning. It'll take you a while to get back in the swing of things. Still thinking about you...

Our weather is actually nice after that snow storm the other day. Who knows what will come this week though. Aaaaaaah, the hot water bottle is definitely my friend. I can't sleep without one in the winter by my toesies.
