Sunday Salon - I'm feeling inspired!

Good morning Sunday Saloners. I hope you have had a good reading week.
This morning I would like to share something with you that I received in the post. I won a book competition over with Naida at bookworm and I received it in the post yesterday. However, not only did I get a book, but Naida also sent one of these beautiful bookmarks that she had crocheted herself, with a lovely card too. I was over the moon with my bookmark and spent all day telling people about it. If you have a chance,do pop over to her site by clicking on her name. Below are two pictures of the book I won, which I look forward to reading and my lovely bookmark to put in it.

Now after receiving this lovely parcel, I found myself quite inspired. Not only do I plan to make some scrapbooking bookmarks to give out, but I also felt inspired to learn crocheting. I have seen many books on this, but they always seemed a bit too technical for me. So, I found it quite a coincidence to come across the magazine below.
A step by step crocheting magazine to help me start with the basics. Each week, it shows you how to crochet different stitches to make squares that will eventually make a vintage throw. Also it has lots of very modern patterns to make other projects when my confidence grows. What luck! So I had to purchase it and plan to start this week. I will keep you up to date on my progress.
What other hobbies do you have apart from reading?
Back to my reading this week. It seems to have been a really slow progress. I finished A Hat Full of Sky by Terry Pratchett and I also read Palace Pier by Keith Waterhouse. I have reviewed both of these books this week. I am still reading The Noodlemaker too, but I only read that in short spurts. I have also started reading Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett, which is a follow up to A Hat Full of Sky and follows the trainee witch Tiffany Aching through her unusual relationship with the Wintersmith ( the creator of all the things we associate with winter.) I am really enjoying it and quite a few bloggers have recommended other books of his that I might like.
The books I hope to read this week are shown in the picture above. Two are library books which arrived quicker than anticipated. Knife and The House at Midnight both had really long waiting lists, so I was surprised to be called to pick them up. I am really looking forward to reading them both. I also have The Glass Tower to read, which was lent to me by a friend. This book has three stories in it, so it might take me a bit longer than usual.
I should be participating in the Inner Child weekend this weekend, but I have so much to do, I don't know if I will have time to read a whole book! So I have decided to not participate this week, but will try again next month.
I hope to get around to some reading today, as my husband is going to paint the dining room. However, the girls will need entertaining, so I don't know if I will get as much time as I like.
I hope you all have a good reading day.

  2. That was very sweet of Naida! You'll have to share pictures of the bookmarks you make :)

I read a trilogy by Catherine Fisher some years ago (The Oracle/The Archon/The Scarab) and it was enjoyable. I need to give the rest of her stuff a try.

  3. Let me know how you get on with the crochet! Then you can start making me some little crochet flowers to put on my scrap pages! I've always fancied doing some of those, but have not got around to actually learning how to do the crochet. I saw some very sweet little scrap bookmarks somewhere recently; they kind of hooked over the page. If I come across them again, I'll link you x

  7. Good luck with the crocheting. I would love to learn how to knit but I don't have the time. I can't participate in the official Inner Child weekend but I think I'll give it a try next week. I hope you can get some reading in.

    Have a great week!

  8. Thanks for visiting me over at RR :D. I crochet, and do some jewelry work and I'm learning to knit. I've also dabbled in the paper crafts. Making bookmarks sounds like a good idea.

    Happy reading!

  9. I just love bookmarks, hand made ones especially. I have an ARC of The House at Midnight which I haven't read yet. I'll be interested to see what you think about it. It's always nice to have a new hobby to be excited about. Happy crocheting.

  10. What a pretty bookmark! And I do hope you'll share pictures of the ones you make as well. And pictures of your crocheting. I love crocheting, but don't seem to find nearly enough time to do it anymore. I'm working on a baby afghan right now, but it's taking me forever.

  11. Congratulations on your win from Naida and her extra bonus bookmark. It really is special. She really makes some great things. I'm knitting right now but not as much as I would like to. I like the idea of the bookmark though, I'll have to try that. I think you read a lot this week.
Don't beat yourself up. Happy days.
    Thanks for visiting.
