25th of the month - finally! - Part 1

After talking about this for the last couple of months I am now at a stage to start showing it to you. This is part one of my scrap calender of the 25th of the month. I started making it nearly a year ago and cannot believe I actually got round to finishing it. After seeing it all come together I am tempted to make another one this year, as I have another book just the same. Also I get the impression that some of you, like seeing what I get up to on my 25ths! I shall aim to make them more interesting for the following year, with a little pre planning.

Here is the front cover of the album, which I love. The first 25th occurred last April, when I was still teaching. It shows me teaching a reception class. I was on playground duty that day too. The whole school got to watch a show presented by the year 5's and organised by my very talented and musically minded friend Fiona.
In reception, we had different topics for each half term and the one for that half term was Minibeasts. That week we were looking at the Hungry Caterpillar.
Every month, I have tried to show what I was reading at the time. In April, I was reading Marion Keyes - Is there anybody out there? I was reading at a completely different pace last year and was quite happy to be able to read a book a week. Fancy that! One book a week!
This shows the lessons that I taught on that day - ICT, Literacy and we also had book buddies, where older children come down and help the younger children read.

25th May 2009 fell on a Sunday. It was a lovely warm day, following a few days of really bad storms which flooded our local park. The girls enjoyed riding through the very large puddles.
On this day I was reading Things to Make and Mend by Ruth Thomas.
We had been looking after some caterpillars at school and they had not come out of their cocoons before the Spring break, so I ended up bringing them home and waiting for them to turn into butterflies. I let them fly away on the 25th.

The 25th of June saw me in recovery from surgery on my stomach. I had gone in for a twenty minute operation and stayed in for four hours. Hubby was in a right panic by the time I came out. On this day, my only venture out was to the doctors to get my stitches removed, then it was back to bed for complete bed rest.
My parents came down to help us look after the girls. I took lots of pictures of all the beautiful flowers I received. My first move into reading two books at once. On that day I was reading I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith and Writing in the Sand by Angus Dunn - a very strange book.
That is the first installment of my 25th of the month scrapbook - more to come next week. I hope you like them.

  1. Wow, it looks great. It's strange to think that was all a year ago. I too would like to do something like that again this year, but I think for me I need to find a different format.

Anyway - I've got to run! Weve both got to be somewhere!

  3. What a terrific post Viv! It's great to see a peek into your life. This is such a great way to keep track of memories. I wish I had started something like this years ago. The front cover of the album is just beautiful! I love it, of course I'm a big fan of anything pink too. I look forward to more of these posts. I, for one, am a fan of them. Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!
