Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton

Pages - 266

Publisher - Orbit - Published in UK in 2000.

Challenges - 100+, Library Loan and New Author.

I am not going to do a long review of this as I imagine that this book has been read many times by lots of American bloggers. It was originally released in 1993 in America, where we only saw its release over here in 2000. I feel that Great Britain may be a little late in jumping on the vampire bandwagon.

This book is the first in a series about Anita Blake, a vampire hunter. The vampire world calls upon her to help them find a vampire killer who is murdering the most influential and the oldest vampires in fictional Saint Louis. Being a vampire hunter, Anita is very much against helping them. Unfortunately they put her in a position, where she in unable to say no to their request. She is continually thrown into violent and dangerous situations all the way through the book, where I started to feel out of breath for her.

The book is very gory and there is a lot of violence, death and sheer unholiness, but I have to say I absolutely loved it. Move over Buffy, there is a new hunter in town. The book was just so gripping all the way through and I think Edward from Twilight may have a contender for my heart. Jean-Claude, the third most influential vampire in Saint Louis might not be in the book that much, but when he is, he leaves his mark.

I would definitely recommend this to any vampire loving readers, but beware it is not a romance, this is a horror book, so be prepared for the horrors that occur.
Thanks to Dar over at Peeking Between the Pages, I now am aware that there are 16 books in the series and another one on the way this year, so I have some serious catching up to do! So many books, so little time! If only I could do without sleep.

On the not sleeping note, I am very envious of everyone taking part in the 24 hour readathon. I would love to be joining in and shall try and cheer you all along from the sidelines. One day, I will participate in this.

Back to the book, please let me know if you have read this series of books and which ones you enjoyed the best?

  1. I've never read anything in this series, and I probably never will. It sounds good, like something I would really love. But I just can't do it. I can't commit myself to a series that long. 16 books and counting? No way.

  6. I'm glad you liked it. I love the Anita Blake series and have been hooked from the beginning. As a note, they get more horrific and explicit as time goes on-they are, after all about vampires, werewolves and the like.
