Sunday Salon - May round up.

May has arrived so quickly and finds me busily planning how to entertain the children for the whole of the six weeks holiday starting in July. I always find the summer holiday a little daunting as it is such a long time to keep them occupied and can end up being really expensive, so I am always on the look out for cheap ways of entertaining the children, so any ideas from other parents would be fabulous.
Luckily mine are taking part in a couple of camps over the holiday, which is a relatively new thing in England, but doesn't involve them staying away from home. They are all locally based, but the children get to do lots of fun activities.

Anyway, as we have reached the end of May, I thought I would do a quick roundup of the books I have read this month.

I have read eleven books this month, which is the same as last month, so my reading habits have stayed about the same. The books I have read are as follows:

  1. The Tales of Beedle The Bard by JK Rowling
  2. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
  3. Never Far From Anywhere by Andrea Levy
  4. The Spook's Apprentice by Joseph Delaney
  5. Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton
  6. Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder
  7. The Spook's Curse by Joseph Delaney
  8. The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen
  9. Bad Blood by Lorna Sage
  10. Secret of the Sirens by Julia Golding
  11. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

My favourite two books out of that list would have to be The Sugar Queen and Memoirs of a Geisha.

This week I managed to finish two of the books I was already reading - Secrets of the Sirens and Memoirs of a Geisha which I have reviewed here and here. I still have to finish Skylight Confessions by Alice Hoffman.

I still plan to read the following three books which I never got around to last week.

  1. Beloved by Toni Morrison
  2. Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
  3. The Seventh Tide by Joan Lennon

That is my reading week planned, what do you plan to read?

  1. I seriously can't believe it's May already! I'm currently finishing The Witches by Roald Dahl and for once I'm not sure what to pick up next. We'll see where my mood takes me!

  2. Looks like you had a good month! I'm kind of in denial about May being here, as well, except that I am really excited about our first anniversary in two weeks. It's REALLY hard to believe we've just about been married a year now!

I'll be totaling my April stats today, as well. Not sure if I hit eleven books or not, we'll see!! Have a great Sunday! (I guess you're further into it than I am...) :-)

  6. April just disappeared didn't it? England only recently has summer day camps? In the states I know that's salvation for many parents. The school I work at offers a BADGE program during the summer and the YMCA offers a six week program. (Our summer is about 8 weeks long). The kids play sports, go on field trips, have snacks, etc.

On a more bookish note - I'm putting The Tales of Beedle the Bard on my library list! :)
