Monthly Roundup

I thought I had been a bit slow with my reading this month, but I have just discovered I actually read one more book than last month. I have read 12 books in total this month, with three of those being review books for You Gotta Read Reviews which can be found here.

So here is the list of books I have read this month with my favourites highlighted in blue.

  1. Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
  2. Skylight Confession by Alice Hoffman
  3. The Spook's Secret by Joseph Delaney
  4. Beloved by Toni Morrison
  5. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
  6. Mudbound by Hilary Jordan
  7. The Gorgon's Gaze by Julia Golding
  8. The Shamer's Signet by Lene Kaaberbol
  9. Cinnamon City by Miranda Innes
  10. Stranded by Jasmine Aherne
  11. Truths Unveiled by Kimberly Alan
  12. The Haunting of the Sandpiper Inn by Elizabeth Black

This was the first month that I have struggled through a couple of books when really I should have given up. It is so hard to give up on a book though, as I hate to be defeated. However, they left me a little disinterested in reading, which has had me struggling to pick up a book to read since.

How many books did you read this month?

Do you find that certain books put you off reading for awhile?

  1. I just checked because I hadn't really been keeping track since my mid-month reading slump, but I managed 22 books this month. It blows my normal numbers out of the water! It's those romances on .pdf files that did it for me! I read 15 in two weeks. I'm amazed. If you were serious about passing some on, I'd love that..

  5. You did well. I read 10 books in May. I hate not finishing a book too. I loved both Guernsey and Mudbound myself. And I've read Beloved. My May roundup is here:

  6. You had a really good month Viv. I do find that sometimes I have a book that's ok but not great and it does kind of put me off for a while. Although when I really read a good one I hesitate to pick up another because it probably won't match up. I just can't win-lol.

  7. It's funny how that happens sometimes, isn't it? The same thing happened to me in April. I thought I bad barely read, and yet I read more than in March. I still have to calculate my totals for May.

  8. You know, I think I'm more likely to put off starting a new book after reading a really, really good one than I am after reading a dud. I think I just want to savor a good one, and get the bad taste out of my mouth with a not so good one.

You had a wonderful month of reading! I think I managed ten. And it's not that I think ten is bad, but somehow I just didn't feel all that productive.

  11. 2 of the books you read this month are on my summer reading challenge--i'm so excited to get to them.

as for books putting me off...not really, but authors can put me off reading their OTHER books. if i don't like a book, chances are i won't bother with other books by the same writer.
