Sunday Salon - lighter evenings!

Good morning Sunday Saloners, I have been so busy the last couple of weeks that I haven't been able to participate in Sunday Salon, so I was desperate to take part this week as I felt I was missing out on prying into everyones reading diaries.

I don't know about anyone else but I am finding that my reading seems to be slowing down as the evenings are getting lighter. I just don't seem to be reading as much during the evenings because there seems to always be something else to do. With lighter evenings, I have found myself gardening ( really not one of my usual activities!) going on long evening walks and encouraging far too many people to come and stay at my house, therefore reducing the reading hours available.

During the winter, I am more likely to be found snuggled up in a blanket with a hot water bottle and unable to move off the sofa every evening, silently willing my husband to bring me tea and biscuits. However as spring ventures into our world, I leave my cocoon, spread my wings and fly round, trying to achieve as much as possible before the light disappears for the evening.

Does anyone else find their reading habits change with the season?

Anyway, enough of my babbling, back to this weeks reading. I finished two books this week. Cinnamon City by Miranda Innes which I reviewed here and Valiant by Holly Black which you will find reviewed here. I loved both books, which is a vast improvement on my previous weeks reading, where I found myself losing interest in the books I read.

I am now reading two books this week. I am half way through The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which is absolutely fabulous and Sanction by Jim Magwood, which is a book to be reviewed for You Gotta Read Reviews. I haven't a clue what books I will follow it with, but that is one of my favourite parts of reading - picking my next read!

Have a great Sunday - hope the weather with you is better than ours ( I am thinking of returning to jumpers and hot water bottles in the next few hours!)

Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Long, dark, cold winter evenings definitely make me want to curl up with a book more than summer ones do. Maybe that's why I never get as much read in the summer as I hope to.

  3. I think having extra reading time in the summer is a myth. You've just written about the reality of a summer evening!

  4. I think you might be right about the reading habits / season thing. Also, LIFE - it can change how things pan out for sure. It's taken me a month to get through my recent book, Angels & Demons which seems so unusual for me - I swear I was reading a book a week at one point.

  5. My reading is pretty consistent as I love to read on the deck in summer, as much as I do curled up with a comforter in winter. It helps that I am not working since we moved, and I have more free time too.

  6. My reading is also pretty consistent through the year. I always try to fit in more reading time whether its summer or winter, and I never seem to be able to read that much. However, if I am actually going on a vacation which includes flying to get there, I am usually getting a lot of books read. Have a great Sunday :)

  7. what a good point - i wonder if i read less during the summer months. Hmmm....I want to say in part maybe not. Living in Florida it's so hot and humid, I prefer to be in doors. :P

  8. Definitely...my reading habits are changing. I seem to be reading less and less and doing other things. I think we should all be doing whatever it is we truly want to do.

I haven't read any of those books, but they sound good.

  9. Well my weather isn't any better than yours. It's gloomy and cold with spitty rain right now. You know I actually read a bit more in the summer when it's hot here because then I go sit outside on my bench. Needless to say that hasn't been happening lately. lol. Hope you have a great Sunday and a good week!

  11. I haven't been able to get much reading done lately either because our son's home from school and we've been out of town. I'm ready to get back into my old routine! I just bought The Hunger Games and can't wait to read it.

  12. Yep, cold winter evening keep me home reading too. It seems now that the weather is nicer and the days are longer, I spend more time outside with my kids.
I have been reading less now.

  13. My reading has somehow slowed down too, Viv. I used to read a lot during lunch time but now ever since joining my colleagues for lunch, I read less.

  14. I haven't kept track of my reading habits apart from this last year or so, but for some reason my reading has shot up in the last few months. I can't think of a good reason for it!
