Sunday Salon - Once Upon a Time Challenge

I am really bad at participating in this lately, but I would definitely say it isn't my fault. With summer heading this way, quicker than I can get the cobwebs off the suntan lotion and get the ill fitting clothes out of the suitcase, my family have become the 'lets fill every minute of the weekend until we pass out with exhaustion' type of family. I end up needing the rest of the week to recover.

We had the local carnival yesterday, which involved a 2 and half hour walk around the town. Good for me in helping to get rid of the last few pounds, bad for the children as it just made them tired and grumpy. Community spirit leads the way in June and July in our little area of the world.

My girls were in the carnival representing the sea and I went along for support. I ended up collecting money on the way round and really got into the spirit of things. I am considering a new career as a carnival supporter, as I liked all the attention!

Today is Father's Day, which means I have to pamper my hubby all day long! So not much in the way of reading will be occurring this weekend.

The Once Upon A Time challenge comes to an end today and I am pleased to have read 12 books for this challenge, which you will find listed in my sidebar. I think my favourites would have to be the Spook's books which I hope to continue reading and definitely Valiant by Holly Black. I have really enjoyed taking part in the challenge, but now have quite a few other challenges to finish and a new one just for July, which you will find detailed here.

This week I have finished reading 3 books, and I am half way through 2 others, which is absolutely fabulous for me. They are:

1)The Shop At Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber.

2)Sanction by Jim Magwood

3)High Fidelity by Nick Hornby

4)Voodoo Season by Jewell Parker Rhodes - half way through.

5)The Funny Thing Is by Ellen Degeneres - half way through.

Next week I hope to read the following books.

1)Waiting on Manana by Miranda Innes

2)A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton

3)Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr - there will be a giveaway with this review.

What have you been reading this week? What books have you got lined up for next week?

  1. Wow you had a great reading week. Funny how we both read The Shop on Blossom Street this week (i liked it). Have fun with family --so important.

  2. OMGosh, but you still managed to get a pile of reading done!!! And fantastic job on OUaT! I didn't get nearly that many read for it, but then I just haven't been getting much "fun" reading done at all. :(
Hope your husband has a wonderful Father's Day! (Mine will choose to go for a hike and spend a lot of time reading...I can't beat that, now can I?)

  3. Sounds like you read some great books this week. I am still trying to get through this Stephen King book I started over 2 weeks ago. I think I might head out to the Zoo this morning. Hope you have a great Sunday. =)

  4. Hi!
I only got one book read for Once Upon A Time. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. But I have the other 4 books in this series, so will finish them some time. I have Debbie Macomber's The Shop on Blossom Street on my list for this year. I love her books! I am currently reading The Promise of Lumby by Gail Fraser. Very interesting book so far! Have a great time with your family and happy father's day to your hubby.

  5. Congrats on your Challenge! I'm impressed - what a great reading week you had. Good luck with the carnival venture! lol It sounds like you had a great weekend!

  6. Father's Day is taking a chunk out of my reading time too.

  7. Congratulations on reading twelve books. Awesome.
Your carnival sounds like it was a ton of fun.
You had a great reading week too.
    Enjoy your hubby day.

  8. You're doing great with your reading! Congrats!

  9. Wow, you sure do manage to still get lots of reading done being so busy. For some reason I just can't seem to get it together lately in the reading dept. I didn't realize the Once Upon a Time Challenge was over so quickly. Well I really did horribly in it as I think I only read one book. I'm still going to leave mine up till I finish the ones I had on my list. Have fun with Father's Day today!

  10. I'm interested in what you think of the Ellen Degeneres book. I've found that I don't like a lot of books by comedians because their comedic timing when they talk just doesn't translate to their writing. Is this a comedy book, or more of a biography?

  11. Pleased the carnival went well. 20 wishes is my first Debbie Macomber book and I'm enjoying it.

  12. Hi!
It's me again, I have an award for you at my place, Sherrie's Stuff. You can pick it up there. Have a great evening.

  13. Happy Father's Day, Viv! You did great for finishing 3 books! :D
