2) The Case Book of Victor Frankenstein by Peter Ackroyd - a followup to Frankenstein, which is meant to be really scary.
3) The Victorian Chaise - Longue by Marghanita Laski - another Persephone Classic found in the same shop as I found the last one.
I also managed to find two books I have wanted for such a long time. Finally I have managed to buy Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman ( my favourite film ever!) for only 40p in the library sale.
3) The Victorian Chaise - Longue by Marghanita Laski - another Persephone Classic found in the same shop as I found the last one.
Also Westward Ho! by Charles Kingsley, which is a very rare book to find, especially when I only paid 99p and the rare book specialists are asking about £20 for it. You may remember that we went on holiday to Westward Ho! In the summer and I searched everywhere for this book. I am so pleased to finally find it.
So yes I did buy books this week, but I feel I had very good reason to buy them, after a really bad week, what's better than to have good books to lose yourself in.
A Persephone at a charity shop! You're so lucky! And a Du Maurier! Enjoy your new books :)
ReplyDeleteYou were lucky to find that Persephone! It's a good one too!
ReplyDeleteoh Graceling, I am dying to buy that one
ReplyDeleteOoh, how exciting to find books you were really looking for!
ReplyDeleteYou must be a nightmare to buy for at Christmas. I have to put my sister on a buying ban and force her to do a wishlist on Amazon near Christmas. 9 times out of 10 I find out she has still been sneakily buying and quite often the stuff off her own wishlist! Aaargh! The amount of times I have had to return books!
ReplyDeleteHaving said that... looking at what you bought, how could you resist that sort of temptation? ;)
Looks like you found some great books. LOL I swear every morning I get up not to buy any more books for awhile. I was told by hubby to stop buying them until after Christmas though. :P
ReplyDeleteYou had a great week! I didn't get anything this week, but it's not like I don't already have enough. LOL
ReplyDeleteBest intentions and all that.
ReplyDeleteThe casebook of Victor Frankenstein is on my wish list, I'm hoping Santa may fetch me it - after all I've been a good girl. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it.
Wow, you had some great finds last week! I've heard that Frenchman's Creek is du Maurier's best. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteOh boy...Frenchman's Creek--i'd be interested in that one. And Practical Magic--just loved that movies with Kidmann and Bullock.
ReplyDeleteI would squeal with delight if I ever found a Persephone in a charity shop.
ReplyDeleteNice haul!
There are certainly far worse ways of trying to cheer oneself up, aren't there? :D Hope you enjoy them all! And I hope this week doesn't find you feeling down!
ReplyDeleteOMG, Frenchman's Creek! I have been seeing Daphne DuMaurier books a lot lately. I really need to read them again!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get or buy any books this week!
Books are a wonderful way to make things better. These look like great choices. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou found some great reads!
ReplyDeleteI love the film Practical Magic, the book was good too, though very different.

Well, I don't know if I dare check back here once you've finished Graceling ;o) Its one of those books that I've been looking at everytime I -accidentially of course-surf by Amazon.co.uk ;o) And if you like it, and maybe even recommend it, chances are I will buy it ;-D
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved Graceling, so I hope you do too! I haven't heard of Practical Magic. I'll have to give that a look.
ReplyDeleteYou've got a bundle of really good books, Viv! It's OK to splurge on them because you should. I totally support you.
ReplyDeleteWow, you found so awesome books! I enjoyed Frenchman's Creek and well Practical Magic is great of course. I have Hush, Hush but haven't read it yet. You probably will before I do. lol. Enjoy all your goodies. Sorry I've been such a bad commenter lately. I'm having a hard time with my hands with the colder weather upon us here.
ReplyDeleteOoh I really want to read Hush Hush!
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful books here! The Persephone is quite a find and Daphne du Maurier books are wonderful. I look forward to your thoughts on Hush, Hush.
