Monday Mailbox

I had no intention of buying anymore books until after Christmas. However on Wednesday, I was feeling particularly low and I knew that the only thing that would cheer me up is buying books. Especially as the book shop had just received copies of Hush, Hush, which I have been coveting for months now. It was heavily reduced and in hardback. Who could resist? I also bought Graceling by Kristen Cashore - another book I have wanted for ages now.

I then hit the charity shops and found the following three books.
1) Frenchman's Creek by Daphne Du Maurier -now you know how much I enjoy Du Maurier's books. So this was a fabulous find.
2) The Case Book of Victor Frankenstein by Peter Ackroyd - a followup to Frankenstein, which is meant to be really scary.
3) The Victorian Chaise - Longue by Marghanita Laski - another Persephone Classic found in the same shop as I found the last one.
I also managed to find two books I have wanted for such a long time. Finally I have managed to buy Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman ( my favourite film ever!) for only 40p in the library sale.
Also Westward Ho! by Charles Kingsley, which is a very rare book to find, especially when I only paid 99p and the rare book specialists are asking about £20 for it. You may remember that we went on holiday to Westward Ho! In the summer and I searched everywhere for this book. I am so pleased to finally find it.
So yes I did buy books this week, but I feel I had very good reason to buy them, after a really bad week, what's better than to have good books to lose yourself in.

  5. You must be a nightmare to buy for at Christmas. I have to put my sister on a buying ban and force her to do a wishlist on Amazon near Christmas. 9 times out of 10 I find out she has still been sneakily buying and quite often the stuff off her own wishlist! Aaargh! The amount of times I have had to return books!

Having said that... looking at what you bought, how could you resist that sort of temptation? ;)

  8. Best intentions and all that.

The casebook of Victor Frankenstein is on my wish list, I'm hoping Santa may fetch me it - after all I've been a good girl. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of it.
