Two New Challenges For 2010

Here is me, panicking about finishing all my challenges for the end of the year, knowing full well I probably won't complete them and yet again I find myself jumping into more challenges for next year. What can I say, I just can't resist them! So here are two I am joining for next year.

This challenge is hosted by Aarti over at BookLust

Here is the information from the challenge from Aarti's post.

The Flashback Challenge will run from January 1, 2010 - December 31, 2010.

You can sign up for the following levels:
Bookworm - Up to three books
Scholar - Four to six books
Literati - Over six books

I am going to go for Literati and I actually intend to re-read the following nine books.

1) Dear Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster
2) Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh
3) The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy Boston
4) Moonacre by Elizabeth Goudge
5) Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
6) Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
7) Ballet Shoes by Noel Steatfield
8) The Wind In the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
9) The Borrowers by Mary Norton.

I am really excited by this one, as I get to re-read lots of books I have loved.
The GLBT Challenge is hosted by the lovely Amanda over at The Zen Leaf. Now I missed out on this challenge this year, so I am eager to join in for next year.

Here is the information from the challenge site.

The Challenge runs from 1st January to 31st December 2010.

The basic idea of this challenge is to read books about GLBT topics and/or by GLBT authors. The challenge runs year-round, and there will be three levels of participation:
Lambda Level: Read 4 books.
Pink Triangle Level: Read 8 books.
Rainbow Level: Read 12 or more books.

As this is a new genre for me, I am going to start with the easy one first, I will do the Lambda level to read 4 books.

I have chosen my four books for this challenge already and they are as follows:

1) Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters
2) Wicked by Gregory Maguire
3) The Painted Veil by W.Somerset Maughan
4) Naomi & Ely's No Kiss List by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

If you want to join either challenge, then click on the pictures which will take you right to the challenge page.

  1. Great list! The onlly book I've read in your list is Little House on the Prarie. I've been meaning to read Anne of Green Gables for a while. I'm reading an adult novel by Streatfeild now, Saplings and really enjoying it!

  2. I do understand where you're coming from with the challenges. I'm trying not to sign up for any new ones, but I'm sure I'll crack and join a couple.

Anyway, this one sounds like fun. Good luck!

  3. Some great books in the flashback challenge - talk about a walk down memory lane. As for the other challenge - I can't wait to read Wicked, I'm hoping Santa will bring me it, if not I'm going to buy a copy, I've heard so many good reviews on it.

  5. I'm trying so hard to cut down on the number of challenges I join, but that reread one is soooo tempting! I love the list you have picked out for it...sounds like a bunch of comfort reads, and who doesn't love that, you know. :D

  6. I wish I had more time to do some re-reading. I've heard good things about Ballet Shoes, and plan to read it someday.

  7. I'm joining this one too! My GLBT list goes up on Saturday-I'm not sure when my flashback list will be ready. Tipping the Velvet is AWESOME! And I loved Wicked too. :)

Have you seen the new movie version of Ballet Shoes? I watched it last fall and fell in love with it-I've been meaning to read the book ever since.

  12. Good luck, Viv! I've signed up for many challenges and ended up withdrawing from a few. I understand what you mean... I can't resist them either, but I'm learning to exercise some control. LOL!

  14. Mrs B - Saplings sounds really good. I am sure that is the one Nymeth read over at Things That Mean A Lot.

Yvonne - Cmon crack with us.

Petty Witter - I have heard mixed reviews about Wicked, but I am determined to give it a go. My friend who tried reading it, got annoyed with the archaic language of it.

Amanda - There was no way I was going to miss out this time. Can't wait to read The Painted Veil.

Debi - you are so right. They are completely comfort reads that I have been slowly gathering over the year. These are books I loved as a child and I am determined to read them again. Just hoping hubby manages to get me Dear Daddy for Christmas, as I have been after that for a long time.

    Blodeuedd - thank you.

Alyce - you have to read Ballet Shoes, it is just beautiful. I have been slowly collecting her other books too, which I haven't had the pleasure of reading.

Eva - I have purchased all of Sarah Waters books apart from Little Stranger which is on my Christmas list and yet I still haven't got around to reading one. Perhaps I need to do a Sarah Waters challenge. I have seen the movie version of Ballet Shoes, but I did see the BBC version which had the actress who plays Hermoine in Harry Potter as the main character.

Aarti - I have really chosen the books that I loved growing up. The ones that just stick in my memory. Harriet the Spy was one I had to read when I started secondary school and I just loved it.

Bermudaonion - we are so bad aren't we.

Nymeth - I can't wait to see what challenges you are going to join too. I should have saved mine for one big list. I might do that if I join anymore.

Dar - there is something so appealing about new challenges, we just can't resist.

Alice - I am trying to control the amount of books I read for each challenge by keeping them at a low number, that way I might actually complete them.

Sheila - you are so right. The challenges are all sparkly and new and desperate for us to join them!
