Library Loot and Monday Mailbox

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Marg that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.
Now I know that I mentioned in my Sunday Salon post that I am waiting for some books that were still ' in transit,' well they are still 'in transit' and these are the ones that arrived before the snow. I still have another six outstanding which I will show you next week.
1) The Hotel by Elizabeth Bowen. I actually bought this one, as it really interested me. It is about a hotel in Italy in the 1920's.
2) Nim's Island by Wendy Orr. I got this out as it is one of my favourite films and they author has just became an Australian resident a few years ago. So this will count towards the Australian Challenge.
3) Witch Wood by John Buchan. I have never read any of his books and hope to eventually read 'The 39 Steps'. This ones is about witches, so I couldn't resist.
4) Book Doctor by Esther Cohen. I m seriously considering joining The Bibliophilic Challenge and this one would count towards it.
5) Jackdaw Summer by David Almond. For the Awesome Author Challenge.
6) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, for the Graphic Novel Challenge.
7) How to Hear Your Angels by Doreen Virtue. Non fiction, purely for pleasure.

Monday Mailbox - I feel so proud of myself as I haven't actually bought any books since the beginning of November, so a big pat on the back to me. These ones I bought were all charity shops ones too, so I didn't spend very much either.

1) Northern Lights by Philip Pullman. I have read this before, but I never finished the series, so I thought I would try and pick up the whole set and read them again.
2) Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine - I am so thrilled to get this one and I shall keep it for the Once Upon A Time challenge later in the year.
3) Mirror, Mirror by Nancy Butcher, a modern interpretation of a classic fairytale. This time Snow White has been rewritten. I will keep this one for the Once Upon a Time Challenge too. Anyone know when that will start?
So lots of books entered the house, despite the snow and more to come from the library next week.
Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Oh! I've read two Elizabeth Bowen books and adored them both! So now I want to read The Hotel, lol. It sounds like it'd be fun to read with Enchanted April, another book I haven't gotten around to.

I haven't heard of an of the other books, but they sound like fun! Once Upon a Time Challenge starts on the vernal equinox, so late March. :)

  20. Hi Vivienne,
I received the book back earlier this year, thank you so much for sending it along on its last leg of its circumnavigation. I will be posting about it this week, now that I am emerging from my self-imposed blogging hibernation.

Happy New Year, by the way!

    Cheers,

  21. Definitely admire your strength to not buy books! I've been especially bad about that lately... just so many I "have" to have immediately! I should really look into checking out more library books soon!

  22. Persepolis is great. I hope you'll love it. That just reminded me that there is a film version out which I missed. I must look for that at the video store. Would love to see how it went from book to screen.

And, I keep meaning to read something by Elizabeth Bowen but you know how it goes... Too many books! :)

    Enjoy your loot!
