Monday Mailbox

As I mentioned last week, I won some Amazon vouchers from Melissa at Melissa's Bookshelf a couple of weeks ago. Well this week the books I ordered arrived and here they are.

1) Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Delamere. I ordered this one for the Once Upon a Time Challenge and is a YA fantasy novel with a paranormal intrigue and Gothic romance.

2) Cover the Mirrors by Faye L. Booth. This was one of my Friday Finds a few months ago and it is a Victorian neo novel dealing with the up rise in seances during that period.

3) Ash by Melinda Lo - another one from my Friday Finds. Described as 'Cinderella with a twist', this one is another ideal read for the Once Upon a Time challenge.

4) Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. I have been after this one since Nymeth from Things Mean Alot reviewed it a while back. I have already started reading it and so far I love it.

I also wanted to show you my impulse buy. They look kind of small in the picture but these are about 10 by 10 inch canvas pictures that will eventually be put up in my kitchen. They were a tad expensive, but you know how much I love cupcakes. I just can't get enough of them.

Also a sad buy, but one that had to be done. I hold my hand up to loving the Twilight series - I am not ashamed as without it I don't think I would have been reading so much as I now do. So when the film came out on DVD, I just had to have it.
Please don't think any less of me, because of my love of Twilight. LOL.

So there are all the goodies that entered my house this week. What did you get?

  3. I love how your acquisitions, or at least three of them, have similar cover art.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Magic Under Glass, it caught my eye in the Bloomsbury catalogue.

I loved Cold Comfort Farm :) You'd probably enjoy Nightingale Wood by Stella Gibbons too.

Fabulous cupcake ceramics! You've just reminded me that I have two carrot cupcakes left to eat...

I haven't seen New Moon yet but I will at some point (I won't resort to buying the dvd though ;))

  4. I really like the look and sound of Ash.

Cupcakes I can understand but the New Moon DVD? Never. The books were good but the films so disappointing. At least Twilight was and I hear this one is no better - I'll still be renting it though. Just to see for myself you understand.

  5. Alice - Ash has been on my list forever!

    Alaine - I just couldn't resist!

Paperback Reader - Nymeth mentioned Nightingale Wood to me too, I will definitely look that one up. I don't know anyone who has read Magic Under Glass yet, so I hope it is good.

Petty Witter - I know I should hang my head in shame for buying New Moon, but I just couldn't resist.

  8. You find the most amazing sounding books Vivienne! These are all going on the list! Love the cover of Ash - very Alice in Wonderland-ish isn't it.

I can't see your canvas piccies on my screen but my pc is going very slow today so probably a problem my end, they do sound lovely though *g*

As for Twilight, I can't comment after having sat and solidly read True Blood books all weekend - did 3 and a half over saturday and sunday *g* I do love the Twilight books, didn't like the first film but am willing to give the second one a go after people telling me it's a lot better - so let me know what you think ;)

Bermudaonion - I actually bought some real cupcakes on the weekend and really enjoyed eating them.

    Blodeuedd - thanks

Carmen - 3 and 1/2 books on the weekend! What did you do with the kids. How I wish I could read that many books in one go. New Moon was much better than Twiligt and I have swapped my allegiance from Team Edward to Team Jacob!

Mary - Cold Comfort Farm is fabulous so far.

  17. Great books!!!
    I like them all.
As far as cupcakes..good thing you're not a teacher in my school. Everytime a student has a birthday they visit me to give me a cupcake. I know all the students because I am the media specialist. That's a LOT of cupcakes. LOL

  23. I love the look and sound of Ash, and may need to track down a copy for myself for that same challenge. Cold Comfort Farm has been on my shelf for 3 years but I just never seem to get to it. It seems to be getting some fresh buzz and now I am thinking seriously about reading it. :)
    *smiles and happy reading*
