Monday Mail

Usually I like to show you my mailbox with the actual photos of my books, but for some reason Blogger won't let me download them. Blogger has completely changed the way the posts can be designed and me, suffering with a severe case of techno phobia has struggled to load anything up.

Three brand spanking new books entered my house this week and two of them I have been drooling over for months whilst waiting for them to be released.

1) Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins -the final part of The Hunger Games trilogy. Need I say more?

2) The Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare - this is the first part of her new series The Infernal Devices. Yes I know, I still haven't finished the other series, but I just couldn't resist this one.  This is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series, but it doesn't matter which you read first.
3) The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova - I am presently reading her first novel, The Historian, and although it is rather chunky, I have to say I am loving it. I am quite happy reading about Vlad the Impaler/Dracula! I feel like I am hobnobbing with the creme de la creme of vampires. I do hope it is as good.

As mentioned above I am happily ploughing through The Historian and I have just started Ellis Island by Kate Kerrigan. I managed to finish The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman on Saturday evening. I did enjoy it, but I found the ending rather sad. More on that later in the week.

Let me know what lovely books came to your house this week.

  2. I have yet to start The Hunger Games, I know, I'm slow. I've read many good things about Clockwork Angel, but again, I haven't read it yet. Same goes for The Swan Thieves. I hope you enjoy that one, I seem to remember mixed reactions.

  3. Some great books you've got there, Vivienne. I got Mockingbird last week but haven't read it yet.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who haven't read The Mortal Instruments series yet. I've borrowed it from my younger sister but it just sits there on my shelf.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying The Historian, I need to read it soon.

  4. Aaaaand that would be why I moved to Wordpress this weekend. I hate the new Blogger editor with a passion, and coupled with all the errors and comment problems I've had for the last four months, it was time to switch!

I hope the editor starts working better for you soon, Viv!

  5. I've been using the editor with no problems for months but I did notice they changed how pictures are uploaded this weekend. Very different--will take some time getting used to.

Interesting cover of Mockingjay! Very different from mine. I actually just picked this book up yesterday while at the grocery store. :) I also have Swan Thieves and hope to get to it soon.

Hope your Monday is fantastic Viv!!

  7. Did I tell you I loved MOCKINGJAY? :) I hope you'll enjoy it too. All the other books look very interesting. I have THE HISTORIAN but haven't read it. I have to stop accumulating and start reading.

  8. Alison - you know I will lend them to you, as soon as I have read them. Don't worry!

Irisonbooks - I am hearing mixed reviews too on The Swan Theives. Hmmm, a bit worrying.

Ladybug - that pleases me too. I thought I was the only one there for a minute.

    Petty Witter - thankyou.

Amanda - I did wonder why you moved. I hope I don't have it, as I wouldn't know where to start.

Trish - the new picture uploader just wouldn't let me load any of my own pictures, which is really frustrating. I am hoping it is just a blip in the system and it will sort itself out.

    Blodeuedd - thank you.

Naida - oh definitely. YOu need to read them.

Alice - Glad to hear you loved it. I hope I do too.

  9. I bawled like crazy at the end of The Graveyard Book...but I think that's part of what made it so perfect.

  10. I love seeing your UK covers, but I'm not sure I get the one for The Swan Thieves, which is a fantastic book, by the way.

  11. Debi - but it is so sad!

Kathy - it is interesting to see different covers. I wonder why they change them so much.

  12. So jealous you have got Clockwork Angel! Didn't realise there was a new Elizabeth Kostova one either - loved The Historian. I'm reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth at the mo - absolutely loving it and so glad to have found out today it's part of a series and to be made into a film! Hope they don't ruin it. Erm... apart from that - just the new Quorn cookbook has entered my house today - very exciting to me but mebbe not to you ;)

  17. I'm sorry to hear you've been having problems with blogger. I hope they fix things soon!

I've been using the new editor for a while and have had various problems and found ways to work around them (not all of them fun). Recently though I had one of those "enough is enough" moments and am in the process of going self-hosted. Thank goodness my husband is helping me.

  18. Carmen - the quorn cookbook sounds good. I love Quorn. I do have The Forest of Hands and Feet, but I still haven't read it. I am pleased to hear it will be made into a film.

Mommablogsalot - Yay for Mockingjay. I need to finish The Historian first and then I shall dive in.

    Vasilly - thankyou.

Ladytink - i know what you mean. I had to have them too.

Yvonne - The Hunger Games Trilogy is a must read.

Alyce - mmmm, I may have to take a look at wordpress. Everybody seems to be moving away from blogger.

    Anna - thankyou.

  19. Did you already start Mockingjay? I think I'd be hard to not dive into that one! Clockwork Angel looks great - I love that cover. Is that like another "steampunk" novel? I need to check that out.

  20. Illiana - no, I still haven't started it. Aargh. I don't think Clockwork Angel is Steampunk. I hope it isn't as I don't seem to get on well with steam punk.
