Really Random Tuesday

Really Random Tuesday is a meme created by Suko at Suko's Notebook which is a way to post odds and ends--announcements, musings, quotes, photos--any blogging and book-related things you can think of.

On Saturday we went to Brighton to do a little clothes shopping. The whole family were in desperate need of some winter clothing, so we spent all day there shopping. As we approached Brighton we became aware of how fierce the sea was. The waves were coming in fast and furious and I have never seen them so high.

My pictures don't really do them justice as they were almost taller than me.
Our shopping trip was so long and tiring, that we needed to have lots of refreshment stops. One of our stops was at the new Krispy Kreme outlet, which had just opened in Brighton.
The choice of doughnuts was immense. Lots of Halloween themed doughnuts. My girls went for chocolate ones, hubby had an apple cinnamon one and I went for a lemon meringue one.
I had to take a picture of this Halloween book too whilst we were in Brighton. Isn't it fabulous.
The best thing about it is that it is edible. It is made completely from chocolate and is on sale at the chocolate shop in Brighton. Yummy!

I don't really have a lot of bookish news to tell you this week. I did finish Her Fearful Symmetry and I have to say I loved it. I can't review it until after my book club meeting, so it will be about a month before I let you know all my thoughts.

I began reading The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud and fell in love with that from the first page. It is a wonderful book for this time of year and definitely worth a read.

This week, I hope to spend some time planning for NaNoWriMo next week. My trial run is still going strong and has got much easier as the week's have passed. It will need a lot of rewriting, but I am pleased to have nearly all the basic story done.

I did receive The Persephone Biannually magazine this week and I hope to make a purchase soon.  Claire over at The Paperback Reader is organising a Persephone Secret Santa for bloggers. If you click here, you will be able to read all about it.

Speaking about bloggers, I really did want to send my deepest sympathy  and my biggest hugs to Dar over at Peeking Between The Pages. Anyone who reads Dar's blog, will know all about her beautiful companion Buddy, who passed away this week. For the past two years, in fact since the very first day I started blogging I have loved reading all about Buddy's antics, so it was so sad to hear that he had gone. If you haven't been over to Dar's blog this week and missed her eulogy for Buddy, then please go over and show her your support.

That's is all my randomness this week. I look forward to hearing all the random things that happened to you too.

  1. Poor Buddy. Heartbreaking.

Is the book in Choccywoccydoodah? I love that shop!

Go you with the writing! Do you type straight on to the computer? I am trying to do this journaling class in pen and paper, and it's killing my hand - just goes to show how reliant we've all become on computers, I can't believe we used to write whole essays and everything out in hand at school. My handwriting these days is terrible!

  2. That chocolate Halloween book really looks good! At one glance it looks like the real thing.

I'm very sorry to hear about Buddy too. I was crying so hard by the end of the post I couldn't see the monitor anymore. It is comforting though to know that Buddy is no longer in pain and he'll always be close to Dar's heart...

    And ooooooh Krispy Kreme!!

  3. LOVE the curse book confection!

I am getting very excited - albeit rather nervous - for NaNoWriMo. Six days and counting!

I had not heard about Buddy - thank you so much for passing long the sad news so that I could offer Dar my condolences.

  4. I love the sea when it is like this - we forget just how powerful it can be.

I wonder how long before we get one of these doughnut shops here in the north east of England?

  5. What a fun post, and great photos.

I do feel so sad for Dar; losing a pet is like losing a child for many people.

  7. Wow, Krispy Kreme is very different here than there! Here, they only sell one kind of doughnut, a glazed cake doughnut which i personally don't even like...your KK sounds more like Dunkin' Donuts here!

    I love that chocolate book!

And I finished my NaNo outline yesterday so I'm now very, very excited about NaNo!! And relieved, becuase I was feeling a little panicky before...

  8. I'm with your girls - it's chocolate Krispy Kremes for me.

I'm really sad about Buddy too. I know he was like a family member to Dar, so she is heartbroken now.

  9. Brighton looks so beautiful. I can practically feel the cool sea mist.

All of the Halloween Krispy Kremes pics are wonderful, as well as the chocolate book (a sweet read, I am sure)!

I am sorry to hear about Buddy, and will definitely stop by Darlene's blog.

Thanks for making my Tuesday, Vivienne! :)

  12. Oooh, I need to see if I can find some Halloween doughnuts around here!

I look forward to your review of A Fearful Symmetry. I can't believe I haven't read it myself.

  13. Ah, how I love Krispy Kreme (there are *several* outlets in London).

    Those waves look treacherous!

Thanks for the link, Vivienne. The Biannually is great, isn't it? Such lovely post to receive.

  14. Anne - I don't know if that is the shop. I forgot to look at the board outside. I type straight on the computer. I trained many years ago as a typist, so it much easier than doing it by hand. I would be there all day.

Alice - I know what you mean. I was so upset for Dar. Hubby came in whilst I was reading it and I was just sobbing. I hope she is OK.

Molly - I am definitely more nervous than excited as I don't have much of a storyline at the moment and with the kids off for half term, I am not sure when I am going to get around to it.

Petty Witter - I reckon they will be popping up everywhere in the near future.

Diane - Being a pet lover, can be so heartbreaking. I remember how upset I was when I had to have my cat Oscar put down. It was two days after Christmas and it was horrendous.

Blodeuedd - a bit of a foodie post.

Amanda - just one flavour, that sounds boring. We don't have Dunkin Donuts over here, so perhaps Krusty Kreme jumped on the bandwagon quickly. I have no outline as of yet for my NaNoWriMo challenge. Should I worry?

Kathy - that is what is so upsetting. Buddy meant everything to Dar and I hope she pulls through OK.

Suko - I would say the sea mist was freezing rather than cool. We have hit winter with a vengence.

Naida - it is just so sad. I keep thinking about how Dar is at the moment.

Nat - I wonder if you get to read the book before you eat it.

Nymeth - it was brilliant. Well worth reading.

Paperback Reader - can you believe that some people were actually out on those waves. Glad to help with the publicity of your Secret Santa.

  15. I agree with Amanda re: KK. I love your flavors. Ours are PLAIN. And I can't stand them.

But I could stand a page (heehee) of that chocolate book!
