September's Reading Round Up

What is going on with my reading???

I have only finished seven books in September. That is really bad for me. I was practically reading double that in January.  I wouldn't mind but most of Time's Legacy was read during August.  I really need to kick butt when it comes to reading during October.
Here are the six books that I read.

1) Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Shroeder
2) The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
3) Time's Legacy by Barbara Erskine
4) The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
5) Ghost Ship by Dietlof Reiche
6) This Year You Write Your Novel by Walter Mosley
7) The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

I just realised that I only actually reviewed three of them. The rest of my reviews were books from August.  I intend to spend October increasing my reading and catching up on all outstanding reviews.

To be fair, this month has been rather stressful.  The girls went back to school the day after we came back from holiday.  I have spent most of the month, catching up on hospital appointments, dentist, opticians - I should be mechanically perfect by now.

I have also had to look into secondary schools for my girls and it has been a big headache. We will probably end up going to our catchment area school, which I was more than happy with, I just feel a little anxious when listening to other parents who are adamant their children wouldn't set foot in it. Aargh!
Anyway, I promise to try harder with my reading next month.

  1. My total was only 8 this month as well. But I haven't finished a book in two weeks :( Reading slumps are hard.

Your month does sound stressful, hope October is more relaxing for you!

  2. We ALL have our slower times. You did a lot of traveling last month it seems, so perhaps October will be better.

  3. Viv, your sept. looks like my past couple of months! I finally did a friday five today. It's been forever since I've blogged, even though I've been still around reading and commenting.I need to schedule a day where I catch up on all of my blogging wants. And I'm hoping that the Read a Thon will be prosperous. :)

  5. I only read 10 in September! My lowest month by far. But it actually felt good...

  6. I had a reading month like this in August but now seem back on form. If only I could say the same with regard to my reviews - all of them done, I just need to catch up on my posting of them. Oh well, here's to a great month of reading (and reviewing.)

  7. It does sound like you've had a stressful month! I know what you mean about schools. When our son was headed to middle school, I heard horrible things about our local school. I went to check it out and loved it and our son had a great experience there. Go with your gut feeling.

  8. I am behind on reviews too. September is always so busy and stressful with school starting here. Good luck with you school choices! My kids go to the elementary school with the highest poverty level in our town, but the teachers are awesome and the school has done better than the others in it's evaluations from the government and student testing, so you just never know.

  9. Well you could count The Historian as two books - that is a big book! haha...

And, I give up on reviews if I don't get them done within a couple of weeks. I wish I didn't but I just get so overwhelmed otherwise.

  10. Sometimes life gets in the way of reading, or you read slower because the book requires more concentration, or it takes longer to finish because it's a chunkster. You read some great stuff this past month and I'm totally looking forward to your reviews. By the way, I am so jealous of the cover of your copy of The Graveyard Book! I may have to find one for myself, although my husband will probably wonder why we suddenly have two copies ...

  11. It's quality, not quantity, that matters. And because of your review of The Graveyard Book, I will probably treat myself to it (as if I need more books!).

  12. I hope this month is less stressful for you. Finding the right school for kids is a stressful job. I'm cheering you on! :-D

  13. I read even less in September. Only 3 books. I think you did great. Work has been keeping me really busy. I really, really want to up my book count this month (if I can).

  14. I thought I was doing well having completed two! Ahahaha! I used to crack through a book a day (Ok still did with the True Blood ones!) but just don't have the time in recent years. Kids! Don't half get in the way of your reading eh? ;)

People were saying the same about Devons school - it's just been turned into one of these academies and a lot of people opted to send their kids to the pay for schools further away. That just seriously wasn't an option for us and it was more a case of which academy site she would go to. Honestly, much as she moans about it (but she would whatever school she was in - she has never loved school like Phoebe does) she has come along in leaps and bounds there. She is in the top set, her confidence is just through the roof, her friend circle has grown. Make your own mind up with the school :)I think it's a lot like reviews with books and films - no-one is ever going to agree. I know it's more serious than that but you know what I mean. They'll be fine I bet :) Scary though isn't it? Growing up so fast!

  15. Can't wait to see what you thought of The Historian! It's on my "would love to re-read" list.

Well, does it make you feel better that I finished ZERO books in September. Zero. :)

  16. Theres just not enough hours in the day to get all that reading in. I think you did great. I barely managed 3 books in September. For me its because of my kids being back to school and all that homework they get, plus my favorite Fall tv programs are back on so I'm not reading as much.
