Girl Reading by debut author Katie Ward
Isn't this gorgeous. Very art deco I think.
This book will be released by Virago (part of the Little Brown Co) in May 2011.
Here is the blurb from Little Brown Co's website.
Seven portraits. Seven artists. Seven girls and women reading.
A young orphan poses nervously for a Renaissance maestro in medieval Siena, and an artist's servant girl in 17th-century Amsterdam snatches a moment away from her work to lose herself in tales of knights and battles. A young woman reading in a Shoreditch bar catches the eye of a young man who takes her picture, and a Victorian medium holds a book that she barely acknowledges while she waits for the exposure. Each chapter of this richly textured debut takes us into a perfectly imagined tale of how each portrait came to be, and as the connections accumulate, the narrative leads us into the present and beyond - an inspired celebration of women reading and the artists who have caught them in the act.

That is a stunning cover. And the premise sounds interesting too!
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty. Thank you for showcasing it :D
ReplyDeleteMeh. I guess I am not that into art deco
ReplyDeleteI can relate to that girl on the cover!
ReplyDeleteNot one of my favourite covers - in fact I think there is something a little eerie about it. I love the sound of the story though.
ReplyDeletefantastic cover! I read in that position in bed myself.
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic cover and it sounds like a good book as well - one I would like.
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! This is one of those books I'd pick up based on the cover alone :)
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! It's a new book to me. Anything that Hilary Mantel recommends is likely to be good.
ReplyDeleteOooh - I love it!
