This is the third book in the series and therefore may contain spoilers for the previous books.I have to start by saying that the plot went off in a completely different direction to the one I was expecting. Some parts I found exceptionally frustrating. Especially that of the ‘time-warp’ effect – I am not going to go into detail as I don’t want to give the plot away. I can see why it was a necessary tool in order to achieve resolution to the story but it doesn’t mean that I have to like it.
The aspect of this book I enjoyed the most was how the relationship between Abby and Kaspian progressed. Abby’s dilemma was poignantly portrayed; I really would like to have seen a different ending. The way in which the physical intimacy was handled within the narrative was nothing short of beautiful. The scene setting and depiction added to the feeling of passion without being graphic or inappropriate to the story. It fitted perfectly. The feeling of frustration that Abby and Kaspian felt not being able to touch the day after was tangible.
The history of the Shades was slightly confusing. I still don’t think I fully understand their role and how it all works. Nevertheless the details regarding the Shades within the narrative added to the plot in order for it to reach its ultimate conclusion.
On the whole this book didn’t live up to my expectations from the previous books BUT it did provide a nice resolution to the story as a whole.
