TV programmes set in California

I am addicted to TV series set in California! So I couldn't resist doing this post.
First up has to be my most favourite TV show ever!
Beverly Hills 90210! I will admit to owning every series of this show on DVD. I can watch it over and over again. I am obsessed by the stars of this show and follow their lives quite happily via Twitter and blogs! The series ran for 10 years making international stars of it's cast.

And then there was the spin off show Melrose Place with the drop dead gorgeous Jake Hanson! This was a bit more grittier than Beverly Hills and centred around several adults in their twenties chasing their dreams. Both Beverly Hills 90201 and Melrose Place were created by Darren Star.

Another one of my favourites from the 80's - Ellen! The sitcom that really put Ellen Degeneres on the road to fame. It was hilarious! It ran for four years.

Nip Tuck with Julian McMahon! Set around a plastic surgery practice run by McNamara and Troy. This did show some rather graphic sexual scenes and I used to blush when I watched it. It ran for six series.

Brothers and Sisters with Sally Field and Calista Flockhart. I really loved the first series of this but I have never got around to watching the other four. The series centres around the Walker family in their home town of Pasadena in California.

I defy anyone not to know the theme song to this show! Fresh Prince of Bel Air catapulted the rapper Will Smith to international stardom! Will played the part of a street wise rapper from West Philadelphia sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Bel Air. Will Smith was on the verge of bankruptcy when NBC approached him with this role.

This one takes me right back to my childhood and is definitely one for the 40 somethings - The Brady Bunch! The two families that became one!

I could go on and on and on with this post, but I will leave it there. If you desperately want to know about more shows set in California, then please click here for the full list.

  1. You forget to mention my favourite, Chips. I had such a huge crush on Eric Estrada as a girl.

  2. Vivienne, first let me say that I adore the British spelling: programmes. (I wish I could adopt British spelling for many words, but that would make me seem affected). Not only do I prefer the spelling, but I also prefer English accents (to American). :)

I used to watch Beverly Hills 90210 regularly, as well as many of the other shows you've featured. Fun post!!

    1. I wonder sometimes why we seem to have such different spellings of words. I have spent ages this week converting posts from US spellings to the UK version. LOL

  3. I will not be able to get the theme song for Fresh Prince out of my head for the rest of the day, I'm sure.
