Come dressed in something dark and decadent for a chance to win £100 of chilling stories on the evening.

Stand up for Book is a quarterly event organised by The Society of Young Publishers and The Society of Authors. We aim to create an entertaining and welcoming literary evening for all book lovers who want to champion unpublished authors alongside star published names.

With Halloween just around the corner we thought it only natural to theme this month’s event on all things spooky.
Our confirmed line up this month includes:
 ·         Brighton based author James Dawson, whose debut contemporary chiller Hollow Pike sent waves through the YA genre earlier this year. (Published by Indigo books – imprint of Orion publishing.)
·         Rock journalist turned author, dubbed the first lady of noir, Cathi Unsworth. Her first novel The Not Knowing was published in 2005 and her most recent release Weirdo delves into notions of cults and pure madness – a work of unforgettable Eastern Gothic.
·         Debut author Kat Darby who’s novel The Unpierced Heart has been called a gothic gem with flavours of Wilkie Collins and Arthur Conan Doyle. Her fiction has been read on BBC radio and has published stories in a whole host of magazines including Slice, Mslexia and The London Magazine.
There will also be two winners chosen from the open call advertised exclusively on The Society of Authors website who will get to hop on stage alongside our headliners. All of the published author’s books will be available to buy on the night.
