Breathe by Abbi Glines

Life has always been a struggle for me. From what I could tell, it wasn’t daisies for everyone else either. I never let go of the fantasy that one day I wouldn’t feel so alone and isolated from the rest of the normal world.
Pages – 166 – originally published by Wild Child Publishing, soon be republished after edits with Simon & Schuster UK.
Sadie White's summer job isn't going to be on the beach life-guarding or working at rental booths like most kids her age. With her single mother's increasing pregnancy and refusal to work, Sadie has to take over her mother's job as a domestic servant for one of the wealthy summer families on a nearby island.
When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie hadn't spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house she might have been normal enough to be excited about working for a rock star.
Even though Sadie isn't impressed by Jax's fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax but he fights his attraction. Relationship's never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can't breathe without Sadie.
But can their love overcome the disparity in their lifestyles? Or will they have to learn how to breathe again

I don’t know how she does it, but Abbi Glines just writes the most irresistible  and hottest male characters ever. Honestly, she will have you drooling and searching desperately for a real life equivalent.
Breathe was Abbi’s first book and I believe it was originally self published. I received this copy from my Secret Santa and I honestly don’t know how she got hold of a copy.  On reading the reviews I know that people were a bit miffed with the writing; the story hadn’t been edited enough for them. However, I am aware from sources at Simon and Schuster that before it is published again in the UK, it will be edited. On reflection of reading  this book myself, I really didn’t see what all the fuss was about. OK, so some sentences were a bit chewy, a few clichés here and there, but to be honest I was so lost in Sadie’s story I couldn’t have given a damn!  As soon as I met Sadie, I loved her. She was a teenager who had been thrust into the role of parent. She never had a choice but to grow up quickly. Her maturity was wonderful. Mixed with her sexual innocence,  she came across as both stunning inside and out. No wonder all the guys were so attracted to her.
I loved Jax too! He wasn’t your typical pop star. He didn’t court fame. He did what he had to do, but he showed he had beauty within his heart and soul and he worshipped Sadie. He came across as jealous at times, but the occasional bit of jealousy just makes a girl feel loved and wanted.
Sadie not only had the affections of Jax, but she was also had Marcus her fellow worker, willing to do anything for her.  He was just as lovely and heart-warming as Jax.  I have been told on good authority that he gets his own girl later down the series within the companion books, so I am really pleased for him.
This is a modern day Cinderella story. Sadie is working as Jax’s maid when he meets her and not once does she give up her position or her need to look after herself as he begs her to stop working for him. She is strong and has her own mind about how she should live her life.
The story is just lovely and as with Cinderella, expect a happy ending. I  really love the way Abbi Glines writes and I can’t wait to delve further into the Sea Breeze series. If you love romantic fairytale stories then this one is a must.
