Geekhood: Mission Improbable Book Launch

On the 1st April, Geekhood: Mission Improbable was launched.  Despite my misgivings, it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke, and on the 8th April, to celebrate Andy Robb’s second book was launched at Waterstones, High Street Kensington.  I was a big fan of the first novel, Geekhood: Close Encounters of the Girl Kind, and so had been looking forward to the second book and thought I’d pop along to the launch to meet Mr Robb.
The launch was being held upstairs and I found my way by following the familiar laughter of friend and blogger extraordinaire, Laura, also known as Sisterspooky.   Laura is quite possibly Geekhood’s biggest fan ever.  Here she is with a copy that doesn’t even belong to her.  She just can’t keep her hands off them!

As people arrived, I had a look round.  The event had a superheroes dress code and many people had risen to the challenge.  Andy Robb himself was dressed as Batman, but the old Batman which was somewhat disappointing as I was expecting a black-clad George Clooney look-a-like.  I’m not quite sure who most of the other people were meant to be (obviously I’m not geeky enough :{ ) but there were some Genuine LARPers in some fantastic pirate looking costumes.  What are LARPers you say?  Well, you’ll need to read Geekhood: Mission Improbable won’t you?
There were also superhero themed cupcakes which I mostly did recognise, except the green blob one, what was that?!

Once a fair group had assembled, Jane from Stripes Publishing did a short speech about the book and her favourite bits about the story and main-character, Archie.  Then Andy’s very friendly agent Jenny did a little speech too before Andy took to the stage to thank everyone for coming and to thank Stripes and Jenny for all their help in bringing Geekhood and Geekhood 2 to the masses!

Andy then showed he’s as creative with felt tips as he is with a word processor, by presenting Kate with a really cute drawing of Archie in his LARPing gear (elf ears included).

Then everyone set about mingling.  I talked to some other bloggers and some of the folks from Stripes and also took a look at the children’s books, you know, as I was there.  I’d forgotten how much I loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  Ahem.
It was a very nice gathering an everyone was really enthused about the book.  I of course grabbed myself a copy and got Andy to sign it, woohoo!  So thanks to Stripes and Waterstones Kensington for hosting, it was a great way to spend an evening and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves.
