The Secret of Ella And Micha by Jessica Sorensen

I wonder if I can fly? With the wind and rain in my hair and my arms out to the side of me, it feels like it might be possible. Perhaps if I can get enough courage to jump off the thin ledge, I’ll soar away into the night, like a bird with powerful wings.

Goodreads Summary
Ella and Micha have been best friends since childhood, until one tragic night shatters their relationship and Ella decides to leave everything behind to start a new life at college, including Micha.
But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home. Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. This was originally self published and just goes to show what outstanding books are available via that routed. Since being published, the book has gone on to be a best selling sensation hitting  the New York Times and will soon be hitting the UK to be adored by the fans of New Adult books.
Jessica Sorensen has created an addictive read centred around an intense relationship between two old friends on the brink of romance. I dare you not to fall in love with bad boy Micha, who has only ever wanted one girl, but took a colourful route to reach her. When his oldest best friend Ella does a disappearing act, Micha is beside himself without her. His search takes him six months to find her, and by the time she comes home, Micha isn’t the same boy she left behind. He is so in love with her and will do all he can to make her realise that deep down she loves him just as much. It takes her a little while to realise he is no longer the womaniser she thought he was.
Ella is a complicated character; her life hasn’t been easy. She is living with a lot of guilt about the death of her mother. This is not helped by the reactions and thoughts of her brother and father forcing her to run away and change her life in order to bury the guilt . She tries to become someone else and it’s only on her return home that she comes to terms with who she really is. Micha brings out the real Ella and she realises she can’t hide from her feelings for Micha anymore.
This is just a beautiful love story. The fact that the characters have known each other all their lives makes the development of the relationship even sweeter. In a similar style to the film Sweet Home Alabama, it shows that home is always where the heart is. I am so pleased to discover that there will be a second book featuring these complicated, yet gorgeous characters. Jessica  has firmly placed herself on the list of New Adult authors to watch out for and I am excited to read more of her books.

  3. This book is a book about love, friendship and acceptance of oneself. I enjoyed reading this book because it doesn't have that much of a drama. Ella was brought up in a not so good environment which had her held responsible at a young age. Mischa being a good friend and lover never gave up, until ella becomes better. Love the story and the characters.
