Top Ten Tuesday–Ten Books I Thought I Would Like MORE/LESS Than I Did.

TTT3W_thumb
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme organised by The Broke and The Bookish. I haven’t ever taken part in this meme before but I have enjoyed reading it when my fellow bloggers have taken part. I check every week to see what the topic is and I was intrigued by the idea of this week’s list. So here are my Top Ten Bookish Moments.
To complete this week’s top ten I’m going to split it right down the middle and give you five books I thought I would like more first, followed by five I thought I would like less.

1) Is it Just Me? by Miranda Hart. If you live in the UK you know who Miranda Hart is. One of our most popular and current comedians. I love the hit sitcom Miranda and cry with laughter when it’s on, so I was expecting the book to be really funny. Alas, it bored me senseless. It was too similar to the series and I got annoyed with the way the author spoke in the end. I didn’t  read more than a chapter.

2) Winter Wonderland by Belinda Jones. I had heard such wonderful things about this book. It was supposed to be magical – a wondrous winter wonderland. Although I got a beautiful description of a wonderful place, it lacked immensely when it came to the plot.

3) The Trouble with Fate by Leigh Evans. I love any fae books but I struggled to get more than fifty pages into this book. There was too much going on and I just couldn’t get on with the main character at all.

4) Vortex by Julie Cross. I really loved the first book in this series – Tempest. However this book just went way over my head. I found it had too many plot threads and lot of new characters and new situations that really took the story away from the original things I loved.

5) Dolly by Susan Hill. I love a good ghost story and Susan Hill is known for creating some spine tingling ones. However this one bored me. It was too similar to previous books and didn’t really capture my interest.

1) The Quietness by Alison Rattle. I’m not always a fan of historical fiction but I knew I wanted to read this as it dealt with baby farming due to the Victorian times. I was so surprised how much I loved the gripping storyline and even after reading it months ago I still love it.

2) From What I Remember by Stacy Kramer and Valerie Thomas. I presumed this would just be another American high school drama. From the first chapter I was bowled over by this book and I keep recommending to everyone I speak to. It is just an amazing book and I would love to see it made into a film.

3) Black Spring by Alison Croggon. Everyone knows I hate Wuthering Heights with a passion. So I was wary to read this. I don’t know why though, as it is the best retelling I have ever read. I loved it. In fact it made me enjoy Wuthering Heights a whole lot more.

4) Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs. This book really surprised me. It was totally different to the author’s mermaid series. I instantly fell in love with the three sisters and it reminded me so much of Charmed which is one of my all time favourite TV series.

5) Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I’ll be honest and say I was a little bit worried about reading this one as I knew it was the same story as Beautiful Disaster (which I loved) but told from the point of view of Travis. I shouldn’t have worried because I ended up loving it just as much as Beautiful Disaster. It was so lovely to spend time in the mind of Travis!

  1. I also found Vortex introduced a few too many plot points and it was harder to keep track of compared to Tempest, though I still found it an okay read.
I loved From What I Remember, I bought it after seeing you and a load of other bloggers chatting about it and read it on holiday and it was fabulous :D

  3. Cannot wait to read Walking Disaster! I'm glad you liked it. Also, I haven't heard of Black Spring. I don't care for Wuthering Heights either, but if you liked it, then maybe I'll give it a try! :)

    Happy Reading!

  4. The Trouble with Fate sounds really interesting but I have heard mixed things about it that's put me of reading. Walking Disaster is still on my to read shelf but I'm super excited. Great list!
