Goals for 2015

It must be that time of year again, when I set myself unrealistic goals that I’m bound to break before the month is out, but it wouldn’t be New Year without them.
It is so hard to resist the temptation to set any, but I get that bug that insists on changing those bad habits I’ve allowed to develop over the last half of 2014. So here are a few goals I have for this year
.
Writing – well I’m pretty proud of myself in this area. I actually wrote a whole new book and edited it. This book also got a lot of positive and encouraging comments from agents who requested the whole thing. So I know I can actually do this. I just need to get it right. For 2015, I want to carry on writing but I want to be a bit more organised. I have printed off a calendar for the year and I intend to write or do something writerish every day. I know that isn’t a word, but I like it! When I mean writerish, I don’t mean blogging, I mean writing another book. I need to either write, plan, research or edit at least for an hour a day. When I am not working, I want to be able to do this all day, but I have to be realistic. Here is to aiming for devoting an hour a day to writing.  That way I get to colour in my calendar with pretty fluorescent colours.

Reading – as I mentioned in my Top Ten post, last year was awful for reading. I hit the worst slump I have ever had. There were weeks when I didn’t even pick up a book. I think I may have set myself too high a limit on Goodreads and when I realised I didn’t have a hope of achieving it, I lost interest. I keep telling myself that I won’t set myself another limit and yet every year, I can’t resist the urge.  So this year, I’ve gone for 100 books, which sounds a lot but is much more achievable than 160 which is the amount I went for last year. I can easily read two books a week. I am not going to bother with reading challenges as I always forget to post reviews on the sites hosting them. As much as I would love to take part, it always goes horribly wrong.

Weight – Oh my goodness, I must stop eating! I was never really a big fan of chocolate and yet over the last few months, I have become obsessed with the stuff. With my summer holiday now booked, I need to go on a diet.  I feel uncomfortable at the weight I am and not  a lot of clothes fit, so it is back to the filling and healthy way of life for me, courtesy of Weight Watchers.

Blog – the blog is in need of a bit of TLC. I blogged half heartedly last year and I felt like I was neglecting one of my children. I’ve been doing this since 2009 and I thought I was ready to quit, but something keeps pulling me back. So this year, I am going to blog a lot better than I did last year. I can’t guarantee I will blog every day, as I don’t always have time but I will not disappear without warning this year.  I also intend to have a lot more on the blog than just books and guest posts. The weekends will probably be more craft and writing orientated from now on.
Reading through this, I realise my goals might appear a bit vague, but I’m OK with that.  I know the direction I am heading and I may take the scenic route, but hopefully I will get there in the end.
Are you all setting goals for yourself this year?

  1. I think vague goals are the way to go. Setting numbers and specifics only restrict you. And oh god, I feel like I'm CONSTANTLY on the edge of quitting blogging so I know how that feels. Good luck with everything this year :)

  2. I think vague goals are definitely the way to go! I've got a reading challenge goal at Goodreads for the first time ever, and am doing the 2015 Classics Challenge, as I really like Stacey's idea for answering questions when I can't be bothered writing a full review, but that's probably it for me.

Congrats again on the book, btw, and hope your writing goes brilliantly this year!

  3. I tried not to beat myself up when setting goals. Weight was a big one for me and getting down to editing my second novel - not necessarily in that order! All the best with your goals, vague or not, hope you get there!
