Blogger Island Books with Carly from Writing From The Tub

Welcome to Blogger Island Books! Carly from Writing From The Tub has just arrived on the island with her chosen books, which will be the only books she will ever be allowed to read again! Check out Carly's blog here.
1) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling
I mentioned this first time around on UKYA day but this is my favourite book from the series and the one I’d always turn to time and time again.
2) Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
The novel that spawned a whole host of YA retellings and a book that proves classics can be just as entertaining as their modern counterparts, I remember reading Rebecca during a summer spent in France and absolutely falling head over heels for the mystery.
3) The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Oh, who doesn’t love The Bell Jar? Nobody can construct a killer sentence like Sylvia Plath could and this will always top my list of favourite books. I’ve read it time and time again and it would remind me that life in civilisation can be just as depressing as being marooned on a desert island!
4) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
The perfect coming of age story, Perks feels authentic and real from beginning to end and I’ll never get tired of reading Charlie’s story.
5) The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
I’d have picked the whole series if I could but if I have to choose one I’ll go for the first installment. I remember how captivated I felt the first time I delved into Todd and Viola’s world and if I ever needed to escape reality on my desert island, this is the perfect book to help.
6) How I Live Now by Meg Rosoff
A survival story as much as it is a love story, How I Live Now contains some of the most gorgeous prose I’ve ever had the pleasure to read, and it’s a great story of hope and overcoming the odds.

7) It by Stephen King
What list is complete without a horror classic? I could have chosen any of Stephen King’s incomparable novels but It is my favourite. Plus, it’s a meaty chunk of a book so would definitely take me a while to read it each time.
8) Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick
For pure escapism, Midwinterblood would be my pick. Making you think about fate, love, soul mates and destiny, this is one I’d turn to when the nights draw in and I want a gorgeous book to read by firelight.

  1. These are some great books! The Order of the Phoenix is one of my favourite Harry Potter books too, except for one character: Professor Umbridge. I can't stand her, hate reading about her and the stuff she does. But that's quite well done still, to write a character who makes me feel that strongly. :-)

Viv, I'd love to take part in Blogger Island books if you're still looking for people.
