Mailbox Monday is hosted by Marcia at the Printed Page and you will find her blog here.

Cutting Loose by Nadine Dajani. I won this book over at Natalie's site Book, Line and Sinker.
I am really looking forward to reading it, so thank you for my book. I have been good and not bought any books this week, as I have so many to read already, as well as a large collection of library books which I reserved and they all came in at once.
I have a little dilemma and I wondered if fellow book bloggers might be able to help me find some books to fit in with a challenge. I had a good look over my A to Z challenges and came up with a list of books that I own that I can read to fill in the spaces. However, I am stuck on a a couple of letters for both author and title, so I wondered if anyone could suggest any books that could fill these spaces.
Here are the letters that I cannot find titles for. They need to begin with the following letters.
Q - Quentins - suggested by Mary - Quartet in Autumn - suggested by Kristen
X - Xingu - suggested by Kristen
Y- Year of Wonders ( which I actually own!!) and Your Oasis on Flame Lake - suggested by Kristen
Z - Zabell and Zorba the Greek suggested by Kristen
Here are the letters that I can not find authors for. Their surname has to begin with this letter.
Q - Julia Quinn and Amanda Quick - suggested by Alice Teh
U- Anne Ursa - suggested by Debi - John Updike - suggested by Alice Teh
If you can think of any titles or authors to match these letters then let me know in the comments and I will add them into the post.
I hope to get round to seeing what everyone had in their mailbox this week.
I would like to know your views about Cutting Loose!
ReplyDeleteHi Viv, for the author's last name, how about these?
ReplyDeleteQ: Julia QUINN or Amanda QUICK
U: John UPDIKE
Good luck!
Do you enjoy middle grade fantasy? (Maybe you could even read it with your girls.) Anyway, if so, maybe you could read The Shadow Thieves by Anne Ursa for your U author. My daughter read it a few years back and loved it...and I've been wanting to read it ever since, but haven't gotten around to it. Just an idea.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Cutting Loose!
ReplyDeleteI came up with Quentin's (I think that's the title) by Maeve Binchy.
Good luck : )
Some suggestions:
ReplyDeleteQ-- Quartet in Autumn by Barbara Pym or The Queen and I by Sue Townsend or The Quilter's Apprentice by Jennifer Chiaverini
X-- Xingu by Edith Wharton (I read this one the year I did this challenge and it's barely larger than booklet length but I liked it. It pokes fun at pretentious people.)
Y-- Your Oasis on Flame Lake by Lorna Landvik or Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks (There are lots of books that start with You or Your that would work as well.)
Z-- Zabelle by Nancy Kricorian or Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantakis or The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman
Enough of that, right? Otherwise I'd be going on forever. Anyway, my mailbos is here: http://booknaround.blogspot.com/2009/06/monday-mailbox_22.html
Hmmm, someone else must have suggested Ursa because I've never heard that name. I only have one for Q and that's Anna Quindlen. I've read Black and Blue and One True Thing-both very good.
ReplyDeleteBy the way my friend, you won Best Intentions at my blog. Check your email for my note.
I'm sorry that I can't help. I just looked at my own list for this challenge and those are the same letters I don't have. I have Alejandro Zambra for Z but I disliked the book I read by him so much, I cannot put you through that same torture. =) Can't wait to see what you end up picking!
ReplyDeleteLooks interesting :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to think about those letters
I'm reading The Year Of Pleasures right now by Elizabeth Berg - does "The" count or could that be another Y?
ReplyDeleteI am trying not to use titles that start with 'The' if I can.
ReplyDeleteI have Cutting Loose and have read a few good posts about this title. ENJOY
ReplyDeleteWhat about Lisa Unger, she has written Black Out, Sliver of Truth and Beautiful Lies, really good books.
ReplyDeleteQueen of Subtleties by Suzannah Dunn
i don't have any suggestions, but am happy to see the book traveled so well! :) enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your book!
ReplyDeleteI was having the same problems with the A to Z Challenge. I did come up with Zapped by Carol Higgins Clark, but it's part of a series.
Oh Cutting Loose looks like it will be a great summer read, I hope that you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteAnd for your challenge I would suggest First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung. ;)
