Friday Finds

Friday Finds is hosted by MizB at You Should Be Reading and you can find it here

This week's book selections are mainly from a Young Adult selection.

1) Numbers by Rachel Ward - this one came up whilst I was browsing on Amazon. Imagine having time to browse Amazon as well as read and write blogs. How bad am I!

Here is the blurb from Amazon.

Since her mother's death, fifteen-year-old Jem has kept a secret. When her eyes meet someone else's, a number pops into her head - the date on which they will die. Knowing that nothing lasts forever, Jem avoids relationships, but when she meets a boy called Spider, and they plan a day out together,

How scary would that be to see the day people will die. Either a party piece or a conversation stopper!

2) Hush, hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.

I have seen this one on so many sites this week. I am presuming it must have gone out as an ARC as so many people received. Wish I could get my hands on a copy! It doesn't come out in England until October!

It is a a sexy and dangerous romance about a teenage girl who falls in love with a fallen angel with a dark agenda to get his wings back.

Here is the blurb from Amazon. com

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.
With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

3) Baking Cakes in Kigali by Gaile Parkin.

This is the only adult fiction book in my finds this week and I found it in Books Quarterly by Waterstones.

Here is the blurb from Amazon.
Meet Angel Tungaraza, professional cake-baker, amateur matchmaker, an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. Angel Tungazara has recently moved to Rwanda from her native Tanzania. With her husband, Pius, and the five orphaned children of their late son and daughter, she is hardly short of things to do. But she still finds time to pursue her hobby and her passion, her small but increasingly successful business, baking individually-designed cakes for the parties and celebrations of her neighbours and their friends."Baking Cakes in Kigali" introduces the unique and irresistible Angel, a fairy godmother who seemingly works miracles for her friends and neighbours; but she is also irresistibly manipulative, if always of course for the best. Angel is entirely aware that many of the Rwandans around her have witnessed and survived horrors she can barely imagine. But she also knows that their lives continue, that they also have reasons to celebrate, to be joyous and to be happy. As she gets to know her neighbours and as they tell her their stories, she comes to realise how much each of them has to mourn as well as how much they have to celebrate. And, finally, she comes to accept how much that is true of her too...

From what I have heard it has parts that will remind you of The No1 Ladies Detective Agency, but other parts are quite deep and sad.

4)Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink

This one keeps cropping up as I whizz around the blogging world. The more I read about it the more I want it!

Here is the blurb from Fantastic Fiction.

Sixteen year-old Lia Milthorpe and her twin sister Alice have just become orphans and, as Lia discovers, they have also become enemies. The twins are part of an ancient prophecy that has turned generations of sisters against each other. To escape from a dark fate and to remain in the arms of her beloved boyfriend James, Lia must end the prophecy before her sister does. Only then will she understand the mysterious circumstances of her parents' deaths, the true meaning of the strange mark branded on her wrist, and the lengths to which her sister will go to defeat her. Debut novelist Michelle Zink takes readers on an unforgettable journey where one sister's fateful decision could have an impact of Biblical proportion.

This is listed as the first book, so I do believe we have a new series on our hands, girls!

Well there are my finds this week, what did you manage to uncover in the book world this week?

  1. I've not uncovered anything this week. Yet. I am off to that bootsale tomorrow and am stupidly excited *g* They all look so good again - going to go add a couple to my wishlist. My Dad peruses that at Christmas - he had about 5 things to choose from last year. There's 3 pages this year - thanks Viv!

Thanks for your gorgeous comments about Spidey. Craig keeps trying to get me to open an Etsy shop too - it's a confidence thing though. Maybe one day eh? She's coming to get it at lunchtime! Ooer!
