Halloween Fun

Just in case you thought I had forgotten Halloween, you would be wrong. It is one of my favourite nights of the year and  I thought I would share some pictures from the evening.
We always decorate our hall for Halloween as we get so many children knocking for Trick or Treat.

These two paired up for the evening! What a lovely couple they make.

I am just so glad these spiders are not real, as I would have moved out by now.
The girls bought new Halloween outfits for their Build a Bears. They look more like Dick Turpin's sidekicks to me.
OK now for a game of spot the difference. Hee hee.
Spooky huh! Hubby did the honours and cut the pumpkin and I made spicy pumpkin soup and roasted pumpkin seeds. Yum.  Hubby was a bit disappointed by his efforts after walking up and down the street with the girls whilst they knocked for sweets. He found that other people's pumpkins were far superior to his as they had bought templates to cut elaborate pictures.
This is my ceramic pumpkin tealight holder below. I seem to have quite a collection now.
I really do love Halloween and I want to thank all Americans for making it such a wonderful tradition. When I was a child we were never allowed to dress up and knock on people's doors for sweets. Now everyone takes part, all the houses are decorated, the children look divine in their costumes and there is a real sense of community. We have embraced the American way for Halloween and long may it continue.

  1. Aww, your girls look adorable! It sounds like you all had a lovely time. I had a couple of trick-or-treaters knocking on my door, which was very exciting :D

  2. What great photos of Halloween. Your girls really are identical!

  3. Aww, how wonderful :) Dick Turpin's sidekicks!! I had a laugh at that :)

  4. Great post Vivienne, such an effort for one night but well worth it.

  5. So happy that you all had such a wonderful time!!! And tell your husband he has nothing to be ashamed of--I ADORE HIS PUMPKIN!

  6. Spicy pumpkin soup - and you claim not to be a domestic goddess!

  7. What great pictures! Sadly we got behind this year and never had a chance to decorate. :( Ah well. Do your girls always dress in the same costume or was that unique to this year? They look adorable, and I can't spot the difference...

Jason was talking about Halloween being the last community holiday in America the other night while we were out trick or treating.

  8. We spent Halloween at the beach, so we missed all the trick or treaters. Our son stayed home and passed out candy.

  9. Oh I love I love I love! I'm such a sucker for Halloween (as evidenced by the village...which your girls would love...). ;) Unfortunately it seems we have more houses that turn off their lights than those who keep them on, so we only had a handful of trick-or-treaters this year. Makes me sad.

Your girls look great! I looked and looked for differences, but other than the smile couldn't find any! I bet mum and dad can tell them apart, though!

I'm behind in my blogging, but I wanted to let you know I read your Brighton post and enjoyed it. That Halloween book is really cool!!

  10. The girls look adorable in their costumes!

Love the little pumpkin tea light holder - so cute! When we get a house I plan to start collecting more cute holiday trinkets, dishes, etc.

  11. What a fun post, Vivienne! Your girls are adorable in their costumes, and it is great to see some of your Halloween decorations. Thank goodness those spiders aren't real--one year we had a tarantula in our yard and I was quite happy when it went under the fence into the neighbor's yard! I've seen some very elaborate Jack-o-lanterns as well, whereas ours tend to be more basic.:)

  12. I think your pumpkin is very cute! You guys really do go all out. I hadn't realized that Halloween didn't used to be a big deal in the UK.

  13. Nymeth - thank you. YOu got to experience Halloween English style.

Bibliophile By The Sea - scary huh!

Clover - but they do look like it with those masks on.

Petty Witter - more costly than anything. We spent a fortune on sweets.

Debi - that made him laugh.

Verity - I wish I was up to your standard. All that cooking you keep doing is inspiring me to get into my kitchen and dust off those cook books.

Amanda - no they don't usually dress the same. There wasn't a lot of choice in dresses in their sizes. Has something to do with them bein Millenium Babies!

Bermudaonion - what a fabulous way to spend Halloween.

Trish - you will have to come here for Halloween next year.LOL. I can't always tell them apart, especially if I am not concentrating. I am glad you liked the Brighton post too.

Jen - thank you. I am sucker for seasonal trinkets.

Suko - thank you. I hope I never have any contact with a tarantula. Urrgh!

Alyce - The British were very anti Halloween for a long time. It really is only in the last few years that people are actually getting into it. I do think it has a lot to do with satellite television as we get to see how Halloween is done properly by you guys.

  14. Wow I love that tealight holder :D We had not a single trick or treater!

Thank you for your lovely encouragement today Vivienne - I must admit I've sat reading it wondering whether to rewrite it again or what. I do have another to do of a YA book - The Forest of Hands and Teeth so will have a bash at that tonight ;)

  15. I like your pumpkin! One day I'd like to dress up properly and go all out for Halloween. Glad you have so much fun and I'm loving the pictures!

  16. Viv PLEASE e-mail me the recipe for your pumpkin soup!! *begging*

    I love all things pumpkin.

  18. i'm a huge halloween fan--we go to my husband's childhood home and dress up in scary costumes to scare the kiddies. they LOVE it.

glad to see halloween has made it across the pond. free candy and costumes? how could you go wrong. :)
